Part of the "THE DALTON BELIEVERS" initiative

Overview

Elevate Greater Dalton is a local workforce development initiative managed by a Workforce Development Director. The initiative includes three core pillars: “Connect Greater Dalton,” a week-long educator externship program; “Project MOTION,” a youth leadership program for sophomores and juniors; and “Northwest Georgia Ready,” a K-12 career readiness and workforce awareness campaign. The goal is to expose students and educators to local career opportunities, support disadvantaged students entering the workforce, and better align education with local labor market needs.

Action plan

Short-term
By the first quarter of 2023, identify funding and create the job description for the Workforce Development Director. Select a candidate by Summer 2023. If possible, transition an existing Chamber employee into the role to reduce cost and accelerate delivery.
Medium-term
Once hired, the Workforce Development Director should begin building partnerships and implementing early stages of the “Northwest Georgia Ready” campaign by Fall 2023. The Director should serve as liaison for workforce development, align education and labor-market needs, support CTAE pathway alignment, and coordinate with business/industry partners.
Long-term
Launch applications for “Connect Greater Dalton” and “Project MOTION” by Spring 2024. Implement the first educator externship round in Summer 2024 and begin the first “Project MOTION” class in Fall 2024. If the Director position is filled quickly, implementation may occur sooner than the timeline suggests.
