Big Idea # 2: Light the Fire

Part of the "SUPER TROUPERS" initiative

WorkforceLagrange/Troup $250,000–$500,000

Overview

Create a Launch Troup Center to serve as both a physical and programmatic link between the community and the three local colleges. The Center would provide affordable office space with business services, student internship/work-based learning opportunities, employer-student events, and a centralized internship database that employers and students from all three colleges can use.

Action plan

Short-term
July 2017–December 2017: Establish the Launch Troup Committee; engage community stakeholders in conversation about the program; hire a part-time staff person to manage oversight and implementation; engage Georgia Tech incubator support services to conduct a community study on the viability of a makerspace/innovation space; identify possible spaces for the facility.
Medium-term
January 2018–May 2018: Create proposals with budgets for the space; solicit public/private partners; request proposals for build out or renovation; create branding and website to advertise the space/programming.
Long-term
August 2018–December 2018: Open the space; build centralized internship portal; hire 1–2 full-time staff; host employer/student summit.
